Guy Opperman MP news: Trust running late with George Stephenson’s cottage
Hexham’s MP has made his frustration felt, as the National Trust has failed to open the home of railway pioneer George Stephenson in Wylam, as hoped.
Guy Opperman visited the cottage last week and was disappointed that he was greeted with a sign saying George Stephenson’s cottage ‘has been put to bed for the remainder of the year.’
Guy Opperman MP said:
‘I am disappointed in the National Trust’s approach. Their signage and attitude do not show they want to reopen George Stephenson’s cottage. This national asset here in Tynedale has now been closed for five years.’
