Guy Opperman MP news: Park homes and off grid homes to receive £400 cost of living support following campaign
Hexham MP, Guy Opperman is delighted that the Government have listened to concerns that Tynedale residents who live in park homes, or who live off the electricity grid will now receive equivalent support to the £400 Energy Bills Discount.
The announcement follows the MP making representations to government ministers on behalf of his affected constituents.
Homes not connected to the energy grid are ineligible to receive the Energy Bills discount as they do not have a domestic electricity meter and a direct relationship with an electricity supplier.
According to the BEIS, approximately one per cent of UK households are ineligible to receive Energy Bills discount.
The government has confirmed that further funding will be available to provide equivalent support of £400 for energy bills for the 1% of households who will not be reached through the Energy Bills discount.
An announcement with details on how and when these households across Tynedale and Ponteland can access this support will be made this Autumn.
Guy Opperman MP said:
“I am delighted the Government has listened to concerns from residents across Tynedale and Ponteland, who were previously going to miss out on this crucial support to help assist with the rising cost of living.
I will continue to make representations to ministers on behalf of my constituents who live off the electricity grid to ensure they receive this crucial support.
I look forward to seeing more details on how and when these payment will be made in the Autumn.”
