Guy Opperman MP news: MP receives update on Prudhoe Drill Hall
Tynedale MP, Guy Opperman has received an update from Northumberland County Council following his call to review its position on the state of the Prudhoe Drill Hall.
Northumberland County Council have confirmed they are commissioning a structural engineer to report into the current condition of the building. The report will inform whether any works are required to protect public safety.
There looks to be little likelihood of the council recovering any costs from the owner, so all costs may be borne by the council.
Guy Opperman MP said:
“I am pleased that the issue is being progressed and the County Council are taking short term measures to secure the remains of the building therefore protecting the public, and pushing for a more detailed examination of the wider site, particularly after the many violent storms over the last few months.”
Cllr Tracy Gilmore said:
“I fully appreciate the very difficult legal position the council finds itself in and thank them for listening and using the limited power they have to good effect. Regular professional inspections will reassure the public.”
