Hexham MP Guy Opperman has pledged his support to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust as it promotes a special day of remembrance on Wednesday 27th January. This internationally recognised day – Holocaust Memorial Day - offers a moment to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed and persecuted in genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
Here in the UK a special event is taking place between 7-8 PM on Wednesday. People everywhere across the country are being invited to light a candle and safely place it in a window as an act of remembrance and solidarity.
Guy Opperman MP said:
‘I hope many people here in the Tyne Valley will join me in an act of remembrance, bearing witness for all those who have endured genocide and honouring survivors and all those who lives have been changed beyond recognition. In a world that often feels fragile and vulnerable it continues to be really important that we all stand against prejudice, hostility and division.’
